The history of Tatsunokuchi Hot Spring in Nomi City goes back 1,400 years, and it is said that the villagers healed the injured legs of horses with the hot spring during the Yoro Era (717-724). However, repeated flooding of the Tedori River, which flows nearby, caused the source of the hot spring to be buried. Many attempts were made to recover the source of the hot spring over several hundred years, without success. In 1836 (Tempou 7, the end of the Edo period), Gensuke Haiya of Raimaru Village claimed he was visited by Yakushi Nyorai (Bhaiṣajyaguru) in a dream, telling him where to find the hot spring. It is said that this is the beginning of the present Tatsuguchi Onsen. The name "Tatsunokuchi" (Dragon’s mouth) is derived from a legend which states that the floods of Tedori River is caused by a dragon that lives there which runs amok.

The "Tambo no Yu" (Rice Field Hot Spring), one of the largest mixed bathing open-air baths in the Hokuriku region, gets its name from the fact that it uses a source of water that gushes out of the middle of a rice field. Six open-air hot springs in a rice field with a view of the Hakusan mountain range to the south. In spring, early seedlings lull in the breeze, fresh greenery dazzle in summer, and red dragonflies in autumn evenings of the harvested field. In winter, you can enjoy a snow covered landscape with steam rising from the hot spring. The scenery of a mountain village that changes from season to season. The peaceful atmosphere of a stream, mountain village and rice fields. This is an impressionistic hot spring that recreates the nostalgic images of childhood. The view from the open-air bath, surrounded by a tranquil countryside, is a healing experience not found at other hot springs. Looking up on a clear night, countless stars fill the sky. Because of this romantic atmosphere, it is also said that this open-air bath has the effect of bringing lovers together. Whether a couple or a group of couples, this is the perfect place to enjoy the ultimate in luxury. In fact, the open-air baths allow you to fully enjoy the countryside scenery where rice is planted in spring and harvested in autumn.
