Russian style New Year Party 2018
Russian style New Year party
A Russian style New Year party
On Saturday of December, 22 a “Russian style New Year party” was held in Nomi city, fifth time this year. A lot of people helped to conduct this event, including members of “Nomi - Shelekhov Friendship Association”, local Russians and regular citizens. There was a lot of exchange since there were also participants originating from China, Korea, Kenya, Vietnam and Makedonia.
The participants split into groups and went around different “stations”. At the Sweets station they made “Kartoshka” cakes that are easy to cope with for anybody; at the Crafts station they cut New Year decorations out of paper; at the Play station both adults and children enjoyed a fun traditional Russian game called “Rope circle”, filling the hall with merry laughs; Letters station presented a challenge of Russian language told to be the most difficult tongue in the world, all the participants learned to write their names in Russian letters; at the Video Greetings station they prepared a New Year surprise for the sister-city of Shelekhov; and at the Tea-and-Talk station the participants enjoyed Russian sweets and tea that are rare in Japan, learning of Russin food culture. There were also Children's corner, an exhibition of posters presenting New Year in Russia and information posters about international exchange, and a Russian souvenirs corner. All of these gave much opportunity to know a foreign culture.
Each year this celebration is visited by Ded Moroz （Father Frost） and Snegurochka （Snow Maiden）. This time the participants played New Year games and danced with them. They also watched a video letter with congratulations from Shelekhov city. It is splendid that citizens of both cities can participate in each other's lives this way in spite of the fact that Shelekhov is far away. In the end Ded Moroz and Snegurochka gave everybody presents, took pictures together with participants and went back to Russia.
We include a recipe for “Kartoshka” cakes. They are very sweet and delicious, please try making them at home! Big gratitude to all the people who helped to conduct this event!
