Russian style New Year party
A Russian style New Year party for children and parents
conduced in Nomi city
On Saturday of January, 14 2017, on the day of Russian Old New Year, a "Russian style New Year party for children and parents" was conducted at Neagari General Culture Hall.
The party was conducted with support from local Russians, "Nomi - Shelekhov Friendship Association" and NPO "You-I".
This event was conducted for the third time in Nomi, there were 71 participants (36 adults and 35 children). Including guests and volunteer helpers there were 82 participants total.
After greetings by organizers and supporters there was a surprise greeting from Russia. Using Skype we had a video conference with pupils of School 5 of Khabarovsk city, Russia. There were 9 pupils of the 7th grade (which corresponds to the 1st year in junior high school in Japan), all of them studying Japanese language, and 1 teacher participating on Russian side. The pupils told the Japanese audience how they've met this New Year in Russia, the talks were delivered in Japanese language. Next, the Japanese and Russian participants exchanged questions regarding New Year traditions. This whole element of the day's program was a new tryout of this year, and the Japanese participants especially mentioned it positevely in the questionnaires: "The video conference was good. Really enjoyed it!".
As well as last year and the year before last, there were two corners where the participants could try making something with their own hands. One was sweets making, offering simple cakes easy even for children to make called "Vishenka" ("Cherry"). The other was making paper New Year decorations. Sweets making was particularly popular this year with 61 participants trying it. A book of cut paper designs presented by "Shelekhov - Nomi Friendship Association" was used well during the preparation of the decoratiois making corner. Next on the program was a presentation about the particularities of Russian New Year and Christmas, followed by the main event of the day - the appearance of Ded Moroz ("Father Frost" who is considered to be Santa Clause's cousin) and Snegurochka ("Snow Maiden", the former's grand daughter). The two played and danced with the participants around the big New Year tree. On his departure, Ded Moroz gave all the participants sweet presents.
The event was covered in Hokuriku Chunichi and Hokkoku newspapers dated January, 15 (Sunday). Please, take a look at those. And make sure to join the party next year!
