All garbage disposal rules must be obeyed.
Combustible, non-combustible and recyclable garbage must be separated and disposed of at the designated garbage collection point, on the designated day by 8 a.m.  Raw waste and combustible garbage are collected twice weekly and non-combustible garbage is collected once a week.

Recyclable garbage are separated into aluminum cans, steel cans, jars, plastic bottles and paper cartons (milk/juice etc) and are collected once a month.  Recyclable plastic is collected twice a month.  Please support recycling.

Combustible and non-combustible garbage must be put into the designated “Nomi garbage bags”, plastics must be put into red colored “Nomi garbage bags”.  These bags can be purchased from grocery stores within the city at the following prices

Large (40 liter) - 10 bags       250 yen
Small (20 liter) - 10 bags       200 yen
Plastic use bag - 10 bags     105 yen

Collection dates differ according to area so please consult your local garbage disposal calendar.  Garbage which is put out on the incorrect day, garbage which are not properly separated, or where the specified garbage bags are not used will not be collected and disposed.  Please strictly follow the garbage disposal guidelines rules.

Please strongly refrain from throwing out garbage that will cause nuisance to your neighbors.  Due to inappropriate garbage disposal in the past, the local residents have asked to warn especially those living in the university halls of residence to strictly abide by all the garbage disposal rules.  If garbage is not collected for some reason, before lodging a complaint, please double check to see if the garbage collection dates and disposal method are correct. 

Magazines, newspapers and cardboard are collected and recycled by elementary school PTA etc so please support recycling.「Recyclable garbage to be disposed of outside the designated days can be taken to the Tatsunokuchi recycling center (in Iwauchi).  Please separate cans, glass bottles, plastic bottles, plastics, newspapers, magazines and cardboard, opening hours are from 9 a.m till 11 a.m every Sunday.」

Bicycles, furniture and other oversized garbage are to be taken to the beautification center for appropriate disposal. Beautification center disposal coupons can be obtained from any information center at the City Office.  (For JAIST university students and researchers, please obtain the Beautification center disposal coupon from the University). Please bring all oversized rubbish personally to the center, there is no collection for oversized garbage.
